About the Program

NAABB created the Birth Justice Incubator & Fellowship program, to equip Black birthworkers with the mentorship, entrepreneurial support, and financial resources needed to develop social justice-focused community programs. We hope to act as a catalyst to aid Black birthworkers in creating impactful community change within Black maternal, perinatal, and infant health.

This FREE immersive fellowship will include:

  • Business building workshops

  • One-on-one industry specific mentorship

  • Stipends, totaling $7,500

To be eligible to participate, you should:

  • Identify as Black/African American

  • Live in the U.S.

  • Identify as a birthworker (doula, midwife, lactation consultant, childbirth educator, etc.)

  • Plan to or already operate an early-stage non-profit, for-profit business or hybrid social business focused on birth justice

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We will support Black birth workers that are leading an early-stage for-profit, non-profit, or hybrid social business that addresses birth justice.

  • Midwives, lactation consultants, doulas, childbirth educators, other birthworkers not listed will be considered as well.

  • No, you do not have to already have your business established (LLC, sole proprietorship, non-profit, etc.). This can be completed while participating in the program.

  • Yes, this program is 100% free.

  • Stipends will total $7,500.

  • Winter 2024

  • 12 months

  • Applications open May 22, 2023.

    Applications close June 26, 2023.

  • Applications are currently closed and will reopen Summer 2024. 

  • You will be notified via the email address provided on your application.

  • October – November 2023.

  • No! We will find, vet, and match you with a highly skilled mentor. Matching will depend upon your goals and area of birthwork and mentor skills and areas of expertise.

  • Mentors will be paid a total of $2,500. Mentors will be expected to provide 1:1 coaching sessions and business development support for a total of 2 hours/month, over 10 months.

  • We will begin selecting mentors after we have decided on our final cohort for the program.
